On World Blood Donor Day on June 14, 2026, our teams will be present in three shopping centres across the country to raise awareness about this vital act. It’s a chance to ask your questions, dispel misconceptions and maybe take your first step towards becoming a donor.
A life-saving gesture – and easier than you might think
Blood donation is essential: it helps treat people with serious illnesses, accident victims, women giving birth, and patients who need plasma-based treatments. Yet many misconceptions prevent potential donors from stepping forward: “I’m too old,” “I have tattoos,” “My blood type isn’t needed”… These false beliefs hinder participation, even though the need is very real.

Dr Anne Schuhmacher, Medical Director of the Blood Transfusion Centre, stresses: “Our blood stocks are currently low. Raising awareness and recruiting new donors is crucial.”
