Blood supplies are currently below the minimum level needed to ensure hospitals in Luxembourg can meet their needs over the coming weeks. The Luxembourg Red Cross is calling on everyone eligible to donate blood to act now.
Current stocks cover only 8 to 9 days of hospital needs. The situation is particularly concerning for blood groups A negative and O negative.
Following a summer with low donor turnout, blood stocks have not recovered since the start of autumn. Yet hospitals continue to need blood every day to treat people undergoing surgery, accident victims and patients with chronic illnesses.
