Current blood stocks cover less than one week of the needs of Luxembourg’s hospitals. The Luxembourg Red Cross is calling on everyone who wishes to help patients and the injured to come forward and donate blood.

This drop in reserves is mainly due to the Easter school holidays, which led to a decrease in donations. In addition, the many public holidays and long weekends in May — a period traditionally marked by a sharp decline in attendance at the Blood Transfusion Centre — are further impacting donor turnout.
Furthermore, the upcoming summer season brings the first wave of travel abroad. Certain trips may lead to temporary deferrals from blood donation, further reducing the pool of available donors in the coming weeks.

The Luxembourg Red Cross urges everyone who can donate to do so in the coming days.
Blood donations can be made at the Blood Transfusion Centre (42, boulevard Joseph II, Luxembourg):
- Monday, Tuesday, and Friday: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Wednesday and Thursday: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Free parking is available at 44, boulevard Joseph II.
At the Esch-Belval Medical Centre (3–5 avenue du Swing):
- Monday and Tuesday: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Free parking for 2 hours at Belval Plaza.
Collection sites are closed on public holidays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
«Donating blood is a simple yet essential act that helps save lives every day. Any one of us — or our loved ones — may one day need a blood transfusion. During this critical period, every donation counts to maintain sufficient stocks and ensure the safety of patients and the injured.», says Anne Schuhmacher, Director of the Blood Transfusion Centre.
